Pineapple Bun- Week 1- I survived.

Eat.

Frankly I don’t know if it’s Pineapple Bun that survived or I did.  We managed to leave the hospital without Jaundice, but yet somehow we didn’t leave it far enough.  Pineapple Bun has been feeding fine or so I thought.  My milk was coming in and I thought it was a good indicator that she was feeding.  I did notice throughout the week that my breast were getting fuller.  It didn’t really occur to me that she wasn’ t feeding enough, I just thought my body knew how to produce more milk since it did it before for Hotdog Bun.

When Hubbs noticed she got more and more yellow, we had to up the feedings.  I would wake her every 2 hours to feed during the daytime and let her sleep 3-4 hours during the night.  She was pooing regularly so I really can’t understand why she is so yellow.  This is still a work in progress, but I know we will get there.

*Why do I have such punk kids?  Pineapple Bun already knows to cross her legs because she doesn’t like pants.  Are pants that bad?

Sleep.

The second night was horrible.  I drank something my mom made me with beans and was gassy all day and night after that.  I didn’t realize it would transfer to the breast milk and Pineapple Bun cried until she passed the gas.  She practically didn’t sleep that night and neither did we.  Be mindful of you eat if you are breastfeeding, after that I stopped drinking whatever my mom made and didn’t dare go near eggs.

Throughout the week she slept more during the day, but when 10pm rolled around, she refused to get off me.   I tried everything during this time including pacifiers and swaddling blankets.  Pineapple Bun will stick out her tongue or wave her arms until the pacifier came out and with the swaddling blankets, she felt too restrained and kept crying and wiggling.  However, two things did work though, boob and laying her on my chest.  Normally she would just suck until she fell asleep (thank god this took 10 mins sometimes) and on really bad nights, I would just lay her on my chest and fall asleep.  I was really worried that I would fling her off throughout the night, but generally 2 hours later when I wake up, I would feed her and she would fall asleep for a couple of hours.

Play.

There’s really not too much playing around since all Pineapple does is really just sleep.  Big brother Hotdog Bun on the other hand hasn’t been too ecstatic about having a sister.  He still jokes around and understands that’s his sister, but he doesn’t have to like her.  Here he is trying to play with her.  I think eventually they would be inseparable, but for now it’s a love-hate relationship.
